Lawrence "Larry" Sofia

LAWRENCE “LARRY” SOFIA, a Pearl Harbor veteran, peacefully passed June 3, 2016 at the age of 95. Beloved husband of the late Theresa (nee DiCicco); loving companion of Carol Feather; dearest father to David (deceased), Gary (wife Eileen) and Lori Cannavino (husband Michael); adoring grandfather of Linda Orf (husband Mike), Tracy Suba (husband Rick), Jillian and Joseph Spring; valued great-grandfather of Rachel, Joshua (wife Morgan), Zachary, and Sarah Suba, Allison and Ashley Orf; beloved brother of Josephine “Peppy” Sofia, Mary Jones (husband Jack), Celeste "Strina” Negrelli (husband Tony); treasured by The McHenry and Feather Families, and a dear uncle and friend to many. As a lover of life and service, after years as a bricklayer, Larry continued working well into his “retirement” by volunteering at Lander Elementary School and participating in the Mayfield Heights Parks and Recreation Committee until the age of 94. He enjoyed casting a line on the lake, staying active and social, tending to his meticulous garden, winemaking, meeting "the guys" for coffee at McDonald's on Tuesday mornings, and above all—caring and providing for others. Larry will truly be missed by those whose lives he touched. The family requests donations in Larry's memory to Menorah Park Hospice, 27100 Cedar Rd. Beachwood, OH 44122. Mass of Christian Burial 10:00 AM Tuesday June 7 at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 6850 Mayfield Rd. Gates Mills, OH 44040. Burial with Military Honors at Knollwood Cemetery.
