

Dr. Michael S. Pap, 95, entered eternal life on Friday, 4/1/2016, in Ishpeming, MI.
Dr. Pap was born in Carpatho, Ukraine and immigrated to the United States in 1948 after earning a Ph.D. in International Law at Heidelberg University.
He was a Professor of History at John Carroll University from 1958–1988. He founded and directed the Institute of Soviet and East European Studies from 1961-1987. He served in the cabinet of Ralph Perk as the Director of Human Resources and Economic Development from 1972-74. He was Executive Vice Chairman of the Greater Cleveland Bicentennial Commission in 1975. He also was a foreign affairs advisor for Presidents Nixon, Ford, Reagan and Bush.
He was devoted to his family and was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Anne. He is survived by his 4 children, Steven Pap MD (Sally), of Westfield Center, John Pap MD (Susan) of Marquette, MI, Charles Pap DDS (Karen) Mentor, and Mary Anne Barbera, MSSA, LISW-S (Richard) Seville. He also had 14 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
The Pap family will greet family and friends to celebrate a life well lived at DiCicco and Sons Funeral Home, 5975 Mayfield Rd, Mayfield Hts, from 6-9 on Monday, April 11. Mass of Christian Burial at the Protection Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church, 27275 Aurora Rd, Solon, on Tuesday, April 12 at 10 AM, followed by internment at St. Andrew’s Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Dr. Pap’s name to the Church.
