Born in New York City on December 25th, 1971 and as her father would say it was the “best Christmas Present” he ever received. She attended Packer Collegiate Institute in Brooklyn and when we moved to Miami she attended Gulliver Academy and Prep, Graduate of FSU, The Art Institute School of Culinary and Florida International University. She couldn’t fulfill her ambition to become a certified Nutritionist due to the early signs of the MELAS Syndrome that started affecting her. That didn’t deter her willingness and dedication to achieve her other goals. As she always said “Mom it’s just another bump in the road” so I supported & encouraged her to pursue all of her dreams to make sure she was happy.
Debbie excelled as a Personal Chef and also enjoyed preparing her gourmet meals for family and friends. She volunteered for a Non-Profit Senior Organization. When Debbie once set her mind to do something it was her determination that she never veered from it and got things done. When her health issues interfered with her Personal Chef career she wholeheartedly devoted her energy to the Non-Profit Senior Organization, working with the founder to provide organization and take control of the monthly donation letters but most importantly scheduling all the monthly Cultural Events, Nature Outings and Special Monthly Events and their Annual Fund Raising Luncheons. She totally enjoyed going to these outings with the senior group.
Additionally, for years, Debbie built up her Amway Distribution Company. She never missed her meetings, went to so many conventions and organized many Galas. I don’t know how she did, but she always made the time.
Debbie’s beloved Grandparents Maggie and Sydney, at an early age helped raise her and her siblings to enjoy Nature outings such as hiking trails, bird watching (they all looked so cute in their hiking boots, walking sticks and binoculars) as they took off on another adventure, cultural events and reading. They always took them out of the hot city and spend all summers at a cabin in the New York Mountains or if they were travelling out of the country they would spend the summer at our cabana. I could always spot Debbie out of all the other girls because she would go topless to jump into the wave because she didn’t like the sand.
Debbie later in life was not much of a socializer because of her hearing loss and found it difficult to communicate. She was an avid reader and never went anywhere without a book. Debbie loved watching sports and never missed a minute of a Miami Heat, Miami Marlins and Miami Dolphins game. She also loved animals and we always had to have at least three dogs. Taking care of them was her loving responsibility. One of the family traditions of 43 years straight was celebrating her birthday at Benihana Restaurants every Christmas Day regardless of what city or country we were in.
Debbie is survived by her Beloved Mother Ginny, Beloved father Abbie, her two siblings Karen and Jeffrey, Grandma Norma and her doggies. In lieu of flowers please donate to umdf.org (United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation.
