Rae Pincus (Freund), passed away at the age of 86 on Saturday, December 29, 2018. Rae was born on August 11th, 1932 in Brooklyn, NY to Jacob and Eva Freund. Rae is pre-deceased by her brothers, Daniel and Herbert Freund. Rae was 15 years old when the Freund family moved to Florida, which became their permanent home.
Rae attended Miami Senior High School where she made lifelong friends and soaked in the high school experience. She loved all high school functions, but never missed a high school dance and was a Lindy Hop champion. Dancing continued to be Rae’s passion and one that she would enjoy with her future husband Jules.
Rae was smart and aggressive – and achieved her goal to attend the University of Florida and graduate as one of a few women in the College of Pharmacy Class of 1955 earning a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy (BSPH). She was a sorority sister in Alpha Epsilon Phi and President of the Cavalettes dance troop.
While at UF, Rae met Jules Pincus, who was the love of her life. Rae and Jules married in 1953 and upon graduation, moved to Orlando for their first jobs. With the birth of Steven Mark in 1955, they began their family. Rae’s brother-in-law, Lionel Pincus (Jules’ identical twin brother) enticed them to move to Miami to increase their pay from $100 to $125 per week in 1956. David Michael was born in 1958. Soon after, Rae, Jules, Lionel (Nancy) and Robert (Bob) Schockett joined together to buy Lee’s Pharmacies – which they successfully operated, expanded and formed a second work “family” for the next 40 years. Meanwhile, the family continued to grow – with Matthew Stuart (1967) and Robert Lawrence (1972).
Rae and Jules loved to travel together, especially cruising around the world with their close friends.
Rae is survived by her beloved husband, Jules, their children Steven and wife Shelley, David and wife Lesley, Matthew and wife Mary Krueger, and Robert and wife Nathali; her grandchildren Elisa, Joseph and wife Esther, Jonathan, Jessica and wife Lana Wright, Joshua, Anna, Shane Spence, Jared and wife Dana, Michael, Lilah, and great-grandchildren Steven Wright-Pincus, Jonah, Lyla and Talon.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the Morse Life Foundation (https://morselifefoundation.org/).
