Rosalie Ellen Kellner Scholl, wife of 55 years, mother of four, Nana to eight, and friend to many with two or four legs, passed away peacefully in the Miami home she lived in for 50 years, surrounded with love by family. Born in Brooklyn in 1945 to Ruth and Jack, she attended New Utrecht High School and Brooklyn College of NYC. Growing up she spoke joyfully of her summer camping adventures with her Aunt Irene and Uncle Herbie on an island in Lake George, NY. Rosalie met her love, Barry Scholl, while working at the Paramount Hotel in the Catskills; she was a hostess and he was a waiter.
Her working career included experience in the import/export business, cat breeding, hazardous waste disposal, medical office manager, and even a few modeling gigs. But work always came second to family, which is what she lived for. Known affectionately as Nana by her grandchildren, they will remember her free and imaginative spirit, unconditional love and support, her magical stories, and dancing around the living room with her to songs by ABBA. She taught them that there are never limits to what is possible.
While she had a special fondness for frogs, Rosalie was a friend to all creatures large or small. Throughout her entire life, stray or injured dogs, cats, and birds had an uncanny ability to find their way to her nurturing care. At her house, you knew you could always get a hug, or a cuddle from a furry friend.
Rosalie was cherished by her loved ones and will be dearly missed by her devoted husband Barry; her children Michael Scholl (Elizabeth Drew Scholl), Mark Scholl ( Angelina Castro), David Scholl ( Sloane Robins), Howard Scholl (Kathryn Parks Scholl); her grandchildren Katherine, Hannah, Jacqueline, Solomon, Drew, Sidney, Isaac, and Noah, and many other family members that she held close to her heart. Services will be held Monday at 2:30PM at Riverside Gordon Memorial Chapel in Kendall. In lieu of flowers, the family requests you consider making a donation in her honor to Darbstar Rescue Foundation (www.darbsterfoundation.com) or your favorite hospice charity.
