Sorkin, Selma passed away Wednesday morning suddenly at the age of 94. She was born in New York in 1922 to Etta and Meyer Halpern. She married Reuben Sorkin during the war years and lived in Washington DC where he served. They began their family there until they relocated to Coral Gables in 1961. She was a cherished companion and partner to her husband for 59 years until his passing in 2001. She was a wonderful mother to her three children, Judy Losben, Larry Sorkin (and Brenda), and Steve Sorkin (and Sarah), a light for her grandchildren, Laura Losben, Craig Sorkin Losben, Mica Sorkin (and Alisa), Naomi Sorkin and Madaleine Sorkin, and great granddaughter Courtney Cohen. She was a beloved sister to her surviving brothers, Bob (and June) Halpern and Nick (and Lee) Halpern. She was a prize-winning artist, astute business woman and always treasured by her many friends and relatives. We had her for her long life, but still wanted her longer.
Funeral service will be 11am Sunday, Feb. 12 at Riverside Gordon Memorial Chapels at Mount Nebo (Kendall), 5900 SW 77th Ave, Miami, FL 33143. The family will be sitting Shiva Sunday and Monday night at Selma’s residence, 10 Edgewater Drive, Apt 6G, Coral Gables.
