Dr. Seth Shapiro passed away on December 14, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. He lost a year-long battle with cancer at age 74, but in his final weeks was enveloped in a loving environment that enhanced everyone’s lives and left wonderful memories for all to share. Seth is survived by his devoted wife, Patty, sons Brian (Jenny), Andrew (Shelley), Michael and Tyler, grandchildren Ben, Katie and Elliot, brother Stan, sisters Sandra Shapiro and Roberta Kovacs, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Eric.
Seth lived in Miami from the age of five, growing up in North Miami Beach and graduating from Norland High School in 1967. He then became a proud Gator at the University of Florida and earned his DDS degree in 1974 from Emory University School of Dentistry. He served two years as a Captain in the Air Force and then attended the Ohio State University College of Dentistry to earn his Masters degree and a specialty in Endodontics. Throughout his distinguished career, Seth was active in many dental organizations and dedicated time to teach dental residents at Mount Sinai Hospital and dental students at the Nova Southeastern University College of Dental Medicine. For his dedication, professionalism and skill, Seth earned the respect of his students, patients, and dental colleagues.
Seth was an avid boater, spending many happy hours with his family on the bay. He also enjoyed golf and became a legend for his prowess with an 8 iron from the fairway. Best of all, he was a wonderful friend to all the people who shared these activities with him. He was talented in what he did and fun to be with, and he had lasting friendships through all his endeavors.
When Seth retired in 2018 and his sons had completed their educations and become professionals, he and Patty moved to Palm Beach Gardens to begin a new phase in their lives together. He was never happier, playing golf, making new friends, welcoming a new grandchild and watching his sons become successful. Seth never failed to appreciate all that he had and express gratitude for his wonderful family and friends. His passing leaves a void and he will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
