Stanley Kolber, 94, passed away on Sunday Feb 4, 2018. He was an avid sports fan and it seems just right that he left us (and quite peacefully) on Super Bowl Sunday. Besides going to hundreds of ball games ‘Stan the Man’ actually himself played ball on the “Young Viejo’s” softball team until well into his 80’s!
What a smile Stan had! What a kind man with a fantastic sense of humor he was. People always remark on his sharp mind, ability to win any trivia contest and his love for people.
Stanley honorably served his country in the Army in World War II and also the Korean War where he received the Purple Heart. Stan’s life was one of service and he volunteered for years at Baptist Hospital and at the Jewish Home for the aged Ice cream Parlor. It’s very likely that your venetian blinds were made by Stan and his brother’s business, Kolber Brothers.
Stan grew up on the South side of Chicago and moved to Miami at an early age. He graduated as Salutatorian from Miami High in 1941. For years Stan hosted luncheons for Miami High classmates and was the “glue” that kept the group aptly named “Ol Timers” together.
Stanley was predeceased by his beloved wife of 68 years Marcia, who passed a mere 3 months before Stanley. They were inseparable in life and now they are together again. His heart was truly broken. Stanley’s greatest joys were his 3 wonderful children and their spouses, 8 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and nephews Cliff Kolber (Doris) and niece Joan Bonello (Dave) and their families.
Stanley and Marcia lived at the Coral Gables Palace for the last 4 ½ years and their family will forever be thankful for the wonderful, fun and stimulating social life and excellent care that both he and Marcia enjoyed there. He and his family are especially grateful to his devoted caregiver Joseph Jocelyn. Everyone at the Gables Palace was like a family.
Stanley is survived by his children Abby (David) Ross,
Daniel (Lesley) Kolber and Jody (Dario) Arenella; his grandchildren: Natalie (Jeannette) Ross, Jason (Lana) Ross and Blake ( Paty ) Ross, Lee ( Allison) Kolber, Sarah, Mark, Robert, Monica and his great grandchildren Drew and Evie.
Stan Kolber's Funeral Service will be this Wednesday at 10:30 at Riverside Gordon Memorial Chapels at Mount Nebo (Kendall) 5900 SW 77th Ave. Miami, Fl 33143. Stan’s Burial will follow immediately after service but at a different location: at Mt. Nebo Miami Cemetery, 5500 NW 3rd Street, Miami Fl 33126
