Vicki Weiner Hamersmith, age 42, passed away after a devastating battle with cancer on Monday, November 28, 2011 at her home in Coral Gables embraced by the loving arms of her devoted family. Vicki was an extraordinary wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend who left an indelible impression on everyone she met. Being a mother and wife is what defined Vicki. And she excelled at both effortlessly. Like Vicki's favorite flower the rose, she was flawless and beautiful. To know Vicki was to know pure kindness, compassion and unconditional love.
Born in Atlanta, Georgia on December 1, 1968, Vicki was the epitome of a "Southern Bell". At North Springs High School, she had many friends whom she stayed close with her entire life. She was also an avid swimmer and actively involved in B'Nai Brith Youth Organization. She attended the University of Florida; and like her father and brother before her, she was a "Proud Member of The Gator Nation"! She also became a member of Delta Phi Epsilon Sorority where she added to her long list of life-long friends.
After she graduated in 1990, she moved to Miami and quickly became an integral part of the charitable community. She joined Federation and influenced its leadership with her boundless energy, generosity, and infectious enthusiasm.
Through her "Florida Connections", she met her husband Steven. Their great love affair began, and they were everything to each other. After becoming engaged in Washington DC under the Cherry Blossoms, they married in Atlanta on November 11, 1995. Vicki embraced her role as wife and mother. She created a loving, nurturing and inviting home for her family and friends. And devoted herself completely to her three wonderful children, Sofie, Cameron and Kasey.
After spending many rewarding years with her children, Vicki re-entered the work force when her youngest son started school. As the Caring Community Coordinator at Temple Judea in Coral Gables, she touched the lives of many people reaching out to them in their time of need, acting as their inspiration. She helped organize resources, support and guidance in the community for adults and children going through bereavement, divorce, single parenting and cancer including Sharsheret-Breast/Ovarian Cancer for survivors and women currently experiencing breast or ovarian cancer.
Vicki is survived by her cherished husband, Steven and her beloved children, Sofie, Cameron and Kasey; her parents Paul and Sharron Weiner; mother-in-law Joyce Hamersmith; sisters-in-law Nancy Weiner, Mindy Hamersmith, Cheryl Hamersmith-Stewart; brothers-in-law Henry Hamersmith and Butch Stewart; adored nieces and nephews Evan, Adam and Rebecca, Spencer, Sabrina, Gordon and Kelly;.along with other numerous friends and family.. Vicki is predeceased by her brother, Kenny whom she loved dearly.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 30, 2011 at 10:30 am at Temple Judea, 5500 Granada Blvd., Coral Gables, followed thereafter by a graveside memorial service at Lakeside Memorial, 10301 NW 25 Street, Miami. Shiva will be observed and announced at the Temple Service.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations should be made to The Temple Judea Vicki Hamersmith Fund at: https://deaktor.wufoo.com/forms/temple-judea-donation-form/.
