Jerry Edward Carr CWO4, USN (Retired), was born November 12, 1945 to Arthur M. & Lucille (Franklin) Carr in Ottumwa, IA. Jerry Graduated from Ottumwa High School in 1963. He joined the U.S. Navy in September 1965. Jerry trained as an Aviation Structural Mechanic and served honorably in that capacity for 30 years; including 2 tours in Vietnam, where he earned the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry over 4 years of Sea Service. He retired in 1995 as a well decorated Chief Warrant Officer Four. During his Navy career he earned many awards and medals including 2 National Defense Service Medals, 2 Meritorious Unit Commendations, and many others. His passion for firearms also earned him the Navy Expert Pistol Shot Medal. He then embarked on a second career as a Safety & Security Officer for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida, retiring again in 2005. His mechanical skill and abilities are ever apparent in his favorite hobby, that of restoring and showing Classic Cars. Jerry is survived by his Children, Kellie Miller, Son In-Law Robb Miller, and Amy Carr; 5 Granddaughters, Tabitha, Kayla, Tierra, Alyssa, and Melissa; and 6 Great Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his Parents, Arthur M. Carr, Lucille Franklin Carr; Wife, Sherry Carr; Stepson, Anthony Breon, and Best Friend, Charles “Chuck” Watkins. A Funeral Service with Military Honors will be Held 1:00pm Saturday, March 31, 2018 at HARDAGE-GIDDENS HOLLY HILL FUNERAL HOME 3601 Old Jennings Road Middleburg, FL 32068. His Celebration of Life will follow immediately after the service at Crackers Lounge. Jerry will then be laid to rest at a private family ceremony in Jacksonville National Cemetery at a later date.
