Karin was so very proud of her Italian heritage as a third generation American when her Grandfather immigrated from Cicconio, Italy in 1906 through Ellis Island. And through his lineage, she was taught to be prepared, learn all you can and, then, pass that on. Post depression and WWII, those attributes laid the foundation for all that laid ahead of her.
Karin lived a full and accomplished life having lived in Denver, CO, Casper, Lovell, and Cody, WY, Renton, WA, Gering, NE, El Paso, TX, Thornton and Greeley, CO, Palatka, Orange Park and Middleburg, FL and even lived on a boat, affectionately named the "Puddle Duck" down in Indian Town, FL. She earned her HS diploma from Natrona County High School in Casper, worked in accounting most of her career then integrated into the computer age serving as a controller, trainer for accounting software programs, certified federal tax preparation specialist and in the business office for Clay County Council on Aging. Her family is very proud that she went back to college at the age of 61, achieved her Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration in 2007 then earned her MBA in 2010.
As a mother, sister, aunt, cousin, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, Karin was especially fond of having family holidays, singing - in church, in groups - in Casper Comic Opera Company, Casper Vicotian Players and karaoke, that later she took her talents "on the road" to provide entertainment in the various senior centers throughout Clay County.
All who knew her loved her, laughed with her, sang with her, praised the Lord with her and made so many fond memories for her. She gave of herself to those in need and provided for others selflessly. She had a deep rooted appreciation for the military and for veterans. She loved this county with a fever. She held her walk with God in the highest regard and continuously read through her bible striving to know it cover to cover. She was an avid reader, and was notoriously known for reading several books week over week over week unless it was a particularly deep and/or educational book to which may have taken her a few days or a week to read ... amazing. Karin spoke her mind, but was so very compassionate. There is so much more to tell but suffice it to say, she will truly be sorely missed.
Karin is preceded in death by most of her lineal family members, her parents, her brother and sister-in-law. With esteem, she was the longest living female on her mother's side (thus far). Although married previously, she was widowed twice late in life - 2006 with the death of her beloved husband, Walter "Bud" Kutz, retired Seaman in the Merchant Marines and then again with the death of her loving husband, Walter "Walt" E. Callaway, retired Navy, in 2015. And, it is important to the family that her bestest friends for over years, Oakey McVaney in 2009 and Kathy McVaney in 2015 are listed.
She is survived by her sister Susan (Mike) Dennison, her children Thomas Staunton, Julie Hammond (Terry Fielding), Danny (Susan) Gunther, Larry (Samantha) Glass and all their friends who called her "Mom". She will always be Grandma to Jenifer (Marius), Matthew-1 (Meredith), Joseph (EriKa), Lonnie, Alec (Jenna), Tristin, Harley (Devan) and Matthew-2. She was great-grandma to Ewan, Jakob, Haden, Sophia, Lucas, Logan, Bjorn and baby Serenity. She is Aunt Karin to Coreena (Tom), Jenny, Martie (Darrell), Lane (Kim) and Cody and Great-Aunt Karin too many to name and includes little Samuel, nick-named "Sammy". She is Sister-Karin to her many, many church family members and Ms. Callaway to the many wonderful medical staff, caretakers and our hospice team that cared for her these past years and especially these last few months and weeks - the family is forever grateful for your loving hands and unbelievable support. Lastly, she is fondly "Maw-maw" to Kiwi, her Chihuahua-Corgi mix and her 14 year old "queen-bee" of a black/brown tiger cat, Emmy (M&M).
Services have been scheduled for Saturday October 12, 2024 at 2:00 PM, at Oak Grove Baptist Church, 3647 CR 215, Middleburg, FL. There will be a reception afterwards in the fellowship hall for sharing memories, laughs and hugs. As per Karin's request, the family will then have a celebration of her life followed by interment in Casper, WY, yet to be determined - in 2025 sometime. Most likely that will be in late spring or early summer.
