Mavis and I had been friends for many years. We found so many things to laugh about and prayed for each other many times.  Mavis was so in love with her family but missed Leroy so much and was ready to be with him. Love you Mavis, I will miss you but have good memories. 

To the family of Mavis, I am sincerely sorrow for the loss of your Mom, MawMaw, and my oldest and dear friend.  Her life and mine have been connected as friends since third grade. We attended church together, rode the school bus from an early age.  There was a period of time when we were raising our children that we lived apart but we never lost touch.  We're connected now by children, grandchildren and even the greats.  God bless all of you and let's all rejoice in knowing that MawMaw now lives in her heavenly home.  She's probably singing and dancing with PawPaw and other loved ones gone before.  
I'll miss our daily phone conversations but know that she's in her eternal home.  My love to all of you as you carry on the legacy left by Mavis and Leroy, my friends.

We go back a lot of years  I knew the Starling Family all the way back to Hart Haven Baptist Church.  Ron and I knew Leroy and Mavis from Beaver Street Baptist Church. Our prayers, sympathy, and love go out to the family. May the Lord grant you some peace at this time.   Ron and Janice Holloway

Mavis and Leroy were contemporaries of my mom and dad, Havard and Betty Hodges. I have fond memories of listening to the singing policeman. We were churched at Beaver St. Baptist and FBC downtown. Leroy sang at my uncle Jimmy's funeral. Jim was killed in the line of duty with JSO. Leroy and Mavis were very active in church. They were truly champions of the faith.
My thoughts and prayers are with the family during this home going.

Maw Maw, as you are grieved here on earth we know that you are happily reunited with Paw Paw in heaven. The loss of someone is always hard on those left behind and we pray for peace for your family and loved ones. You will be greatly missed.

Mavis was a part of my life  for 65 plus years. As her brother-in-lawthere were many memories to remember with my brother and Mavis. I will miss the good times. After someone is gone, we rejoice  for them in a better place but it is hard to think you can not call them or see them. If you have a mother, father brother or sister I encourage you to tell them you love them and go see them when you can because you never know when that time will end. Our comfort comes in knowing that we will see them again in heaven if your saved. I know I will see my brother and Mavis again in heaven. My prayer is that GOD will comfort all the family.

Mrs. Starling is survived by her son, David (Belinda) Starling; daughter, Karen (Cliff) Broughton; 6 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family and friends.
