Paulo “Paul” Brogna, 80, passed away July 4, 2018 with his 3 sons by his side. He is survived by his sons and their spouses Joseph E and Elaine Tucker of Orange Park, Florida, Richard P and Kimberly Brogna of Bellevue, Nebraska, and Robert A. and Mary Brogna of Papillion, Nebraska. His brother Peter Brogna of Pembrooke, MA, sisters Angela Neas of Raynham, MA and Emma Flemming of W Roxbury, MA. Grandchildren Christopher, Benjamin and Emily Brogna, Great Grandchild Lacey Brogna. He is preceded in death by his wife, Marion G (Warren) Brogna, parents Paolino and Anna (Cerza) Brogna and brother Anthony Brogna.
Paul was born August 24, 1937 in Avellino, Italy. He was the oldest of 5 children to Paolino and Anna Brogna. At the age of 17 Paul immigrated to the United States with his brother Peter and father Paolino. The family followed a few years later and settled in Massachusetts. He met his beloved wife Marion in night school and they were married May 14, 1960 for 49 years before her death in 2009. As a young man, Paul was a man of many talents. He was a salesman, drove an ice cream truck, waiter, and tradesman. He became involved in construction and worked most of his life as a foreman in the city of Boston. Neighbors, friends, and family benefited from his knowledge.
Paul was a devoted to his family and church. He was involved in the Knights of Columbus with St. Josephs Council and became Grand Knight. Paul and Marion raised three sons and lived in Roslindale, Dedham, Randolph, and Plymouth, MA before retiring and moving to Green Cove Springs, Florida in 1996.
He enjoyed playing cards and a visit to the Brogna home was always full of card playing. Paul was nearly unbeatable in Hand and Foot. He was the neighborhood “Santa” at Christmas time and would invite the neighborhood children to sit on his lap. Paul enjoyed feeding his friends and family with big breakfasts, Italian dinners, and you never left hungry.
Paul was a friend to many and enjoyed coffee mornings and conversation. He will be remembered by all that met him as a man that loved his family deeply and will be missed by all.
A visitation will be held 6-8 PM Monday July 9, 2018 at HARDAGE-GIDDENS HOLLY HILL FUNERAL HOME, 3601 Old Jennings Road Middleburg, Florida 32068. The funeral Mass will be 11 AM Tuesday July 10, 2018 at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church, 1649 Kingsley Ave, Orange Park, FL 32073. Burial will follow at Holly Hill Memorial Park.
