Bennie William Hudson

Ben (Bennie) W. Hudson was born on September 15th, 1941 to William Virgil Hudson and Opal Marie Mauldin-Hudson and his sister Jahala Hudson Thompson in Albemarle, NC. Growing up in Stanly County, Ben worked several jobs and took a position with Alcoa Company where he relocated to Owensboro, KY for a period of time. While in Kentucky he met his wife of 53 years, Charlotte Harper Hudson. Shortly after their relationship began, Ben was drafted by the U.S Army and Ben and Charlotte were soon married before his deployment.

Ben was stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War and soon sent for his wife Charlotte to come live with him there with him for the 2 years he was in service. Upon returning home, the couple decided to relocate to Charlotte, NC and began their careers and started raising a family. Steven William Hudson was born to Ben and Charlotte in November 1969 and they also had another son, Anthony Ryan Hudson born in December 1973. They attended Eastern Hills Baptist Church in Charlotte since 1967.

Ben took a job with Barker Air & Hydraulics and worked in sales for a period of time. While working at Barker, Ben met David Scott and began a lifelong friendship. Dave left Barker Air & Hydraulics in late 1979-1980 to form Scott Equipment Company located in Huntersville, NC. Ben would later join him to help start a company that is still successful today from the foundations that Dave and Ben laid many years ago. Ben was a super likeable, knowledgeable, hard working man that formed many friendships with his co-workers and the friendships formed were lifelong. Ben loved his career and his co-workers he believed that Scott Equipment Company was and is a special place to work. He worked there until his declining health forced him to retire in December 2018.

Ben loved being a husband, a father, and was very proud to be a grandfather to his beloved grandchildren. Alexa Grace Hudson was born in March 1997 and grandson Dylan Michael Hudson was born in March 2002. Pawpaw was his name for the past 22 years and he delighted in having an active role in the lives of his grandchildren. They were his pride and joy. Ben passed down the values, morals, and the importance of God, family and hard honest work by living his life in a consistent, quiet yet powerful way.

On December 11th, 2018 Ben was diagnosed with mild-moderate stage Alzheimer’s disease. But after many failed attempts to medicate the progression of the disease, it became clear that Ben was being afflicted by something that was more aggressive and displayed a very rapid deterioration of his cognitive functions. It is believed by the family and some of Ben’s doctors that he was stricken by the disease CJD. Creutzfeld- Jakob Disease is a relatively unknown, rare disease that gets mistakenly diagnosed as Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s disease. An autopsy has been ordered to confirm that theory.

On the evening of May 9th, 2019 at 9:29pm Bennie W. Hudson was escorted by the angels into the presence of his loving savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. He expired just as the song “Our GOD is an Awesome GOD” finished playing. He passed away peacefully as witnessed by wife Charlotte H. Hudson and son Steven W. Hudson.

Bennie W. Hudson was survived by beloved wife Charlotte Hudson, sons Steven Hudson and Anthony Hudson, granddaughter Alexa Hudson and grandson Dylan Hudson, sister Jahala Hudson Thompson, brother in law Gibson Heath Thompson, niece Beth Anne Sowder (wife of Randy Sowder, daugthers Becca and Kara Sowder.)

The visitation and memorial service will be held inside the mausoleum at Sunset Memorial Gardens located at 8901 Lawyers Road, Mint Hill, NC 28227 on Wednesday, May 15th. The visitation will begin at 1pm an hour prior to service beginning promptly at 2pm. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in Bennie Hudson’s name to Eastern Hills Baptist Church or the CJD Foundation (Creutzfeld-Jakob Disease) at Donate

Just wanted to share my Condolences to the family of Ben Hudson. Ben was probably one of the smartest guys that I have ever met in the Pneumatics industry and was a great role model for myself. I worked for Scott Equipment several years and every time I saw Ben he showed the most positive attitude of anyone that I had ever been around. His legacy at Scott Equipment will never be forgotten.

Bennie and I grew up in the same church, South ALBEMARLE Baptist Church. Been many years ago. I have lots of wonderful memories. Bennie will always be remembered. Please express to Heath and Jahala ...I am sorry for your loss. Bennie and Jahala were close brother and sister even in our years of growing into adults. My heart goes out to this wonderful family. God please comfort this wonderful family as they grieve.
