

Charles Joseph Wylie, (CJ), 90, passed away at his home and went to be with the Lord on January 18, 2017. Charles was born on June 20, 1926 in Morganton, NC to parents Dr. Otis Wylie and Margaret Rebecca Pendergrass Wylie. He grew up in Valdese, NC before moving to Charlotte, NC to attend Central High School.
Charlie was a World War II veteran who served as a member of the US Navy in 1944. He graduated from The University of South Carolina in 1950 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering Summa Cum Laude.
Charles worked for Duke Energy from 1950 to 1984 before retiring as a Chief Electrical Engineer of the Design Engineering Department. From 1977 to 1981 he served as the United States representative to the International Atomic Energy Agency. A Life Fellow Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers he was awarded the IEEE Centennial Medal for Extraordinary Achievement in Electrical Engineering.
Charlie was appointed to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission 1984 where he served on the Statutory Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards for 12 years.
Charlie was very active in Prichard Memorial Baptist Church, Eastway Baptist Church, and Providence Baptist Church of Harrisburg.
Charles is survived by his wife Margaret Jo S. Wylie, his daughters Margaret Jo Wylie, Donna Cynthia Tilson, stepson Perry William Sischo, grandsons William and Michael Tilson and great grandchildren Layla and Weston Tilson.
A visitation with the family will be held from 10:00am until 11:00am Tuesday, January 24th at Eastway Baptist Church, Charlotte, NC. A funeral service will immediately follow at 11am with Reverend Bill Saylor officiating.
