Linda Kay Long

Linda Kay Long (Lynn), 67, of Charlotte, went to be with her Heavenly Father surrounded by her loving family, after a 12-year battle with emphysema, at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte on Saturday, July 14, 2012.

Lynn was born on January 12, 1945 to the late William Simon (Bill) Long and Willie Ruth Parker Long. She was the oldest of four children. Lynn was a Registered Nurse at Moore Memorial Hospital for 35 years. Lynn was Miss Student Nurse of 1966 at Hamlet School of Nursing. Lynn was an avid animal lover.

A service to celebrate her life will be held on Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at 3:00pm at McEwen Mint Hill Chapel 7428 Matthews Mint Hill Rd. Charlotte, NC 28227. The family will receive friends one hour prior. Interment will follow at Siler Presbyterian Church cemetery.

She is preceded in death by her father, first husband, Larry Sherrill Saunders, Sr. and daughter, Shannon Lynn Saunders Coley.

Lynn is survived by her son, Larry Sherrill Saunders, Jr., of Fayetteville; her mother, Ruth Long of Matthews; sisters, Deanie Head of Lawrenceville, Georgia and Gina Nix of Mint Hill; her brother, Ed Long of Anna, Texas. She is also survived by her nieces, Nicole Merrill, Heather Hill and Stephanie Nix; nephews, Todd and Eric Auten, Jason and Ryan Long and Marshall Nix and eight great-nieces and nephews.
