

Lloyd Victor Capps, 88, of Charlotte, passed away on November 6, 2011, at Asbury Care Center, on the grounds of the Aldersgate Retirement Community. He was born in Fayetteville, NC on April 29, 1923, to the late Mallie and Maggie Preddy Capps. In addition to his parents, Lloyd was preceded in death by his sister, Loraine Williams.
Lloyd was a World War II veteran, having served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1943 to 1946. He served with the 315th Bombardment Wing in the Pacific Theatre. Following his honorable discharge, Lloyd returned to Raleigh, NC, where he graduated from NC State University in 1951, Phi Kappa Phi. Mr. Capps spent the majority of his working life in the insurance industry serving customers until after his 87th birthday.
He was an active member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church for over 50 years. He took great joy in serving as a Deacon and usher until his failing health prevented him from fulfilling his responsibilities. An avid sports fan, Lloyd was a life-long fan of the Washington Redskins and the Boston Red Sox. Watching football on television was a passion all of his adult life.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Betsy Buchanan Capps; his two daughters, Betsy Phillips and husband, Tal, of Wake Forest, NC, and Patricia Kerley and husband, Ted, of Charlotte; his son, Stephen Lloyd Capps of Charlotte; three grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and 88 years of love, laughter, and fond memories shared by all who knew him.
His family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, November 9, at Hickory Grove Baptist Church, with his funeral service to follow at 11:00 AM in the church sanctuary. The Rev. John Harrill and the Rev. Arnold Kessler will officiate. Interment will follow in Charlotte Memorial Gardens.
