Michael L. McGee, 47, of the beautiful countryside on the outskirts of Mint Hill, passed away September, 3, 2018 after an extraordinary fight against a very aggressive form of Brain Cancer called Glioblastoma.
He was born in Charlotte, NC on April 29, 1971 to Robert L. and Ann L. McGee (Lynn), a few short years after his Brother, Robert L. McGee Jr. (Bobby).
Being raised by a single mother who simply adored them, the boys quickly bonded and became inseparable throughout their childhood, with Bobby assuming a “Father-Figure” role, even teaching Michael to read and ride his bike.
After graduating from Independence High School in 1989, he continued on in to the work force with typical starter jobs at Con-Stan Car Wash and the Round-About Skating Rink.
He met the love of his life, Angelia, during Halloween of 1992 on a blind date and was married 8 short months later on July 31, 1993. They moved to Fayetteville, NC so Michael could begin working for his Father-in-Law’s Company in the Cable/Telecommunications industry, one in which he would spend the remainder of his life contributing to, ultimately spending 18 years with BellSouth/AT&T.
He has two beautiful daughters, Rachel (22) and Jessica (18), who, along with Angie, make up the three most important “Girls” in his life and sole reason for his unrelenting drive and determination to succeed.
Once he received the diagnosis in November 2016, he had three wishes:
1. Ensure that the medical research generated from his treatment would lead to a cure someday;
2. Live long enough to attend both of his Daughters’ Graduations (College for Rachel and High School for Jessica);
3. Provide his “Girls” with financial security (free from college loans, vehicle loans, and stock portfolios.)
God granted every single one of those prayer requests, and a million more along the way.
In addition to his three “Girls”, Michael is survived by so many wonderful people that will carry his memory forward:
• His Mother, Lynn McGee of Charlotte, NC; His Brother, Bobby McGee of Charlotte, NC; His two nieces, Cara and Emma McGee also of Charlotte, NC
• The only Father he ever knew and loved, Robert Williams and his 2nd Mother, Barbara Williams of Myrtle Beach, SC
• His Sister-in-law and Brother-in-law, Cindy and Mike Grundy, along with his nephew, Michael Grundy of Springfield, VA.
A visitation will be held on Friday, September 7, 2018 from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at McEwen Funeral Service-Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Road, Mint Hill, NC 28227.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 8, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel at McEwen Funeral Service-Mint Hill Chapel.
