A proud NAVY veteran, Walter served in Naples, Italy. In 1967, at the age of 24, he began his career in the fire service in Connecticut and later Florida. He served as Florida’s first state Safety Program Manager.
Walter was a photographer and an avid cruiser, something that he and his wife Mary, of 50 years, truly enjoyed. He was also a longtime usher at the Annunciation Catholic Church in Altamonte Springs, FL.
Once he relocated to Charlotte, he became a member of the Charlotte Art League. Walter was promoted to "PoPoP", when the apple of his eye, his granddaughter, Calliope was born. In August 2019, he defeated pancreatic cancer.
Walter was predeceased by his wife Mary Cardillo Malo, his parents, Albert Malo and Anita McCaffery and sister, Dolores Layman.
He is survived by his daughter, Danielle, granddaughter, Calliope Rose, his son in law, Bruce; his sister, Donna Soboleski; his brother, Ken Malo; as well as many nieces and nephews.
A funeral mass will take place on Monday, June 28th at 11:00am at St. Luke Catholic Church in Mint Hill, NC and interment at Salisbury National Cemetery will follow.
