Wanda was born on November 17, 1946 in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. When she was a child her family relocated to Atlanta, Georgia, and as a teenager she became a legal citizen of the United States of America. After graduating high school she became a wife and homemaker to husband, Raymond Kenneth Filz, Sr., and together they raised six children. They later moved to Mint Hill, North Carolina.
Wanda loved the beach, cultivating her floral garden, and cooking and baking for her family... especially her perfected chocolate chip cookie recipe. She spent many years serving the Lord at Hickory Bible Camp in Taylorsville, North Carolina, where her children enjoyed many summers. Wanda was happiest when spending time with her grandchildren; either babysitting or participating in their swimming lessons, piano lessons, and homeschooling. She was also fortunate to have six sisters (lovingly known as the “Gray Girls”) with whom she was very close and shared much of her time.
Wanda was predeceased by her husband, Raymond Filz, Sr. She is survived by her children: Raymond Filz, Jr., Debra Filz, David Filz, Heidi Paterniti, Gretchen Filz, and Kurt Filz. She is also survived by son-in-law Mark Paterniti and her three beloved grandchildren: Blake, Connick, and Taylor.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family asks that donations be sent to Hickory Cove Bible Camp (170 Ferguson Lane, Taylorsville, NC 28681) in Wanda's memory.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy for the Filz family may be shared at www.mcewenminthillchapel.com.
