Willie Ruth Parker Long

There to meet her were her husband, Bill; daughter, Lynn Saunders; son, Eddie Long; granddaughter, Shannon Saunders; great-grandchildren, Dakota Long and Jaxson Hill, along with her siblings – Pauline, Frank, Herman, Mable, Ellen and Myrtle.

Ruth was born on July 4, 1922 to Bert and Myrtle Parker. She was a retired employee of the Charlotte Mecklenburg School System as a Film Inspector. Ruth attended Christ Presbyterian Church where she faithfully served the Lord in various ministries.

She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt, totally devoted to her family. She was loved and adored not only by her family, but everyone she met. She was in her element cooking a big family dinner, making sure everyone was well fed! She rarely sat down to eat herself! She was too busy serving everyone else!

Her other passion was her flowers and working in her yard. She cut her own grass and drove until she was 95 years old. She loved sitting outside in the warm sunny weather and watching the birds and seeing her flowers.

Ruth is survived by her daughters, Deanie Head (late husband-Mickey) and Gina Nix (Duane); granddaughters – Nicole Merrell (Noah), Heather Hill (Michael), Stephanie Shackelford (Joel); grandsons, Todd and Eric Auten (Robyn), Marshall Nix, Jason (Jerri) and Ryan (Tabitha) Long, Larry Saunders; great-grandchildren, Brittany and Bradley Merrell, Sammy Auten, Shelby, Travis and Jacob Long, Kaitlyn and Mason Long plus many wonderful nieces and nephews and loving care giver Parthenia Wells.

A graveside service will be held at Siler Presbyterian Church Cemetery on Thursday, December 17, 2020 at 2pm. Cemetery is located on Waxhaw-Indian Trail Road beside Wesley Chapel Fire Department, 315 Waxhaw Indian Trail Rd S, Waxhaw, NC 28173. The Cemetery is not located at the church. Her family will have a Celebration of Life after COVID.
