March 9, 1929 – July 29, 2022
Aaron ‘Ron’ Nathanson passed away peacefully on July 29th at the age of 93 after a long illness. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y. on March 9, 1929, Ron moved with his family to Los Angeles at age 14 and attended Fairfax High School, where he and his wife Janet Lee (Samuelson) met. They were married in the summer of 1950, but he was called to active duty two weeks later. After serving in Korea as a sergeant-major in the US Army, he returned after two years to married life and the raising of their family. Ron and Jan were married for 72 years.
Ron attended LA City College and went on to a successful career in wholesale textiles, serving as vice president of the Textile Association of Los Angeles (TALA) and was named Man of the Year. He was dedicated to community service and was a natural born leader. He was elected to the school board of the Wiseburn School District where he served for almost thirty years, including multiple terms as president. In addition, he was a member and officer of the Delegate Assembly of the California School Boards Association. He was also active in synagogue leadership and served as president of Temple Akiba in Culver City.
Ron Nathanson was intelligent, independent, and a self-made man. He was gracious, friendly, compassionate, and caring. He was always the first to respond in an emergency or to offer a hand to someone in need. His interests and talents were numerous. He loved flying his Cessna 182 and was active in the Airventurers flying club. He was an accomplished athlete, loved skiing, and was a lifelong Dodgers fan. Ron also loved his dogs and had a great sense of humor. More than anything, he loved family and was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.
Sadly, Ron was predeceased by his sister Nancy and daughter Karen. He is survived by his wife Janet; his son Jeff, his wife Connie and their daughter Anya; son Mark and his children Jessica, Joshua, and Cambria and her husband Jerry and their children Briar and Brixton; and his late daughter Karen’s children: daughter Ali, her husband Joe and their son Ford; daughter Risa, her husband Preston and their children Charley and Wilder; and her sons Parker and Benjamin.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in Ron Nathanson’s memory be directed to the Wiseburn Education Foundation, Temple Akiba in Culver City, or the Alzheimer’s Foundation.
