February 1, 1945-March 24, 2024
Eileen died peacefully at home, listening to her favorite music after visits from her loved ones. She was a lifelong Los Angeles resident and first-generation college student who received both her B.A. and Masters in Public Health from UCLA. Eileen began her career at the LA County Department of Health Services as a health educator developing programs on maternal and infant health and sexually transmitted disease prevention. She then became a dean at UCLA’s School of Public Health, where she created a Peer Health Educator program that continues to this day and was widely adopted. Once she had children, she devoted herself to her family, volunteering at her children’s schools and encouraging them in all their endeavors. Eileen had an incredible sense of humor, made friends everywhere she went, and loved travel, chocolate, and music- oldies, rock, and even hip-hop. Her family and friends will greatly miss her warmth, enthusiasm, and ability to find or create fun in any situation. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 37 years, Bruce. Eileen is survived by her children, Rebecca and Brian (Christen), grandchildren Allison and Charlotte, companion Rick Bender, sister Roz Krojansky (Ed), and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. A private burial was held on March 27th and her memorial will take place on Sunday, April 7th at 11 AM at Groman Eden Mortuary. Those wishing to honor her memory can make donations in her name to the IBIRI Research Fund at the F. Widjaja Inflammatory Bowel Institute by contacting Matt Miller at [email protected] or 323-866-6454.
