Beloved father and husband, Michael Alfred Krakower passed away at City of Hope in Duarte surrounded by his family. Born in Los Angeles and raised in Santa Monica, he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Architectural Engineering at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo and had a nearly 50-year career as a licensed Civil and Structural Engineer in California, over 30 of which were as the principal of Krakower and Associates.
Passionate about historic preservation, he took great joy in working with diverse professional teams across the state to identify alternatives to delicately strengthen the archaic materials of construction in a manner that preserved and protected the character defining features from excessive damage and safety threats from future earthquakes or other deferred maintenance.
He was a member of several professional organizations, including the National Trust for Historic Preservation, California Preservation Foundation, Los Angeles Conservancy and Pasadena Heritage. As a volunteer and consultant for the California Office of Emergency Services, his field observations led to code changes after assessment of post-earthquake damage in historic districts around the state. Krakower and Associates has won numerous preservation design awards with design teams, including multiple locations listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
In his own words, structural engineering provided the means to have plenty of quality time to participate in the growth of his family, his proudest lifetime achievement. He will be missed by his wife of 46 years, Lynn Bienenfeld and daughters Andrea and Amy more than words can say.
A funeral and graveside service for Michael will be held Monday, July 21, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Groman Eden Mortuary and Eden Memorial Park, 11500 Sepulveda Blvd, Mission Hills, CA 91345.
