Barbara Jean Nance

She was born on September 19, 1948, in Fort Bragg, North Carolina to James Franklin and Betty Garner Wallace. After graduating from Sun Valley High School, Barbara attended Cosmetology School and worked as a cosmetologist for over 50 years. She semi-retired but continued to take care of family members and close personal friends. Barbara had many hobbies and enjoyments in her life. She loved cooking and was a true Southern cook where everything was homemade and made from scratch. She also enjoyed going to the beach where she loved floating in the ocean. She had a gift and talent for singing where she sang in the church choir as well as with her daughter, Sherry, on car rides and family holidays. Barbara would always be able to harmonize to any song that was being sung. Barbara also loved and treasured her family and enjoyed making precious memories with them. In 2013, Barbara reunited with her high school sweetheart, David Holleman. They had been apart for over 40 years after they had married other people. After reuniting, they got married in 2018 and were an inseparable couple. Most importantly, Barbara was a Christian woman, full of faith, who loved her Lord Jesus Christ with all her heart.

Along with her parents, Barbara is preceded in death by her sister, Deloris Ann Raley. She is survived by her loving husband, David Sherrill Holleman; daughter, Sherry Dawn Nance; son-in-law, Thomas Mercer; and step-grandchildren, Christopher N. Mercer and Raynie G. Mercer.

A visitation will be held on Friday, July 18, 2025, from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at McEwen Funeral Home of Monroe, located at 204 South Main Street, Monroe, North Carolina. A graveside service to celebrate Barbara’s life will be held on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at 11:00 am at Lakeland Memorial Park, located at 1901 Lancaster Avenue, Monroe, North Carolina with Rev. Perry Holleman officiating. A reception will then follow the graveside at McEwen Funeral Home of Monroe where everyone is invited to visit the family.
