David J. "D.J." Doster, age 95, of Monroe, passed away on September 5, 2016. He was born in Union County on November 22, 1920, son of the late Jack Vann and Carrie Melton Doster. Mr. Doster served in the U.S. ARMY and was a WWII Veteran. He was preceded in death by his sister, Susie Shaw; and his brother, Cletus Doster. He is survived by his nephews, Victor Shaw, John Shaw, Cletus Doster Jr.; his niece, Mary Green and a host of great nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 2:00pm until 3:00pm Saturday, September 10, 2016 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with the funeral service beginning at 3:00pm. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family has requested memorial contributions be made to Jesse Helms Nursing Center, 1411 Dove Street, Monroe, NC 28112. McEwen Funeral Home of Monroe is serving Mr. Doster's family.
