Doug was born on February 27, 1955, in Monroe, North Carolina to the late Kenneth (Niff) and Dorothy Lathan. He spent his life working hard to take care of those he loved. He spent the majority of his life living in the Monroe area, with a brief stint in Emerald Isle. As a young man he played football for his high school, and over time, the love for the sport evolved as he became an avid Carolina Panthers fan. He was a member of West Monroe Baptist Church, where he worked to enrich the faith of youth members of the children’s ministry for many years with his mother, and most recently with the Good News Club. He was known for his impressive carpentry and drywall skills, for which he used to help create his successful business, Lathan Drywall. He co-founded the Boy Scout Troop # 171 in Monroe, where he led several young men to earn the title of Eagle Scout, including his very own grandson. Doug spent many summers taking scouts on camping trips to help them earn badges and teaching valuable life skills.
Doug loved his family. He had many hobbies including line dancing, camping, singing, finding deals at yard sales and teasing his brother-n-law. He made friends anywhere he went.
Everyone loved....Doooouuuugggg.
