Jimmie Smith Starnes, age 93, widow of Curtis Wayne Starnes, Monroe, passed away peacefully at her home on July 26, 2025 with family at her side. Mrs. Starnes was born March 5, 1932 in Monroe NC to Travis Shelton Smith and Della Kate Funderburk Smith.
Jimmie was a lifelong resident of Monroe NC, She married Curtis Wayne Starnes in 1952 and they made their home in Monroe, NC. She was a devoted wife and mother who cherished time spent with family. In addition to raising their children, she maintained her career as a Payroll Clerk. She loved spending time gardening, sewing and doing needlework.
She is survived and will be dearly missed by her son, Derwin Starnes and his wife Christie Starnes of Monroe, her daughter, Matrell Grismer and her husband Tim Grismer of Monroe. A brother, Ted Smith and his wife Fairis Smith of Monroe. A sister, Donnie Ledbetter of Monroe. Two Grandchildren, Dane Grismer and his wife Kathleen Grismer and Sarah Starnes and her fiancé Jackson Hardister. Three Great Grandchildren, John Grismer, Luke Grismer and Keiran Grismer.
A visitation for Jimmie will be held Thursday, July 31, 2025 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at McEwen Funeral Home of Monroe, 204 South Main Street, Monroe, NC 28112. Her celebration of life will immediately follow in The Colonial Chapel from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM. The committal service will follow in Lakeland Memorial Park, 1901 Lancaster Ave, Monroe, NC 28112.
