

She was born in Lancaster, South Carolina on February 5, 1939. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as her church family and friends. She was a long time and active member at Mary Elizabeth Baptist Church where she served faithfully in various ministries of the church. She also enjoyed sitting in her rocking chair on her front porch.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 38 years, Henry Lee; her parents, William Coy and Leila Baker Shehane; 3 brothers, Ward Shehane, Bruce Shehane, and Richard Shehane; and a son-in-law, Greg Blackburn. She is survived by her daughters; Teresa Rape (Randy) and Angie Blackburn; grandchildren, Travis Rape, Cory Rape, Magan Blackburn Lewis (Corey), and Nicholas Blackburn; great-grandchildren, Noah, Makenzie, CJ and Lena; and two sisters, Sandra Beckham and Nell Phillips, and a host of nieces and nephews; also Michael Woods "Woody" who loved her and called her "mama".
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 26, 2022 at McEwen Funeral Home of Monroe from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm. A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held on Thursday, October 27, 2022 at 2:00 pm at Mary Elizabeth Baptist Church located at 3703 Mary Elizabeth Church Road, Waxhaw, North Carolina with burial following immediately after in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Mary Elizabeth Baptist Church. McEwen Funeral Home of Monroe is honored to serve the family of Ms. Jo Ann Phillips.
