She was born on June 30, 1932, to the late Henry and Etta Polk.
Joyce was a Union County native who graduated as valedictorian from Wesley Chapel High School in 1951. She later became a cosmetologist where she worked for over 70 years before retiring. Joyce had many hobbies and interests in her life including reading, crafts, and sewing for the local community. She was also a devoted Christian and was a founding member of Secrest Grove Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and never missed a service until her health kept her from attending. Although Joyce never married nor had children or grandchildren, she was more like a grandma to her many nieces and nephews that will greatly miss her.
Along with her parents, Joyce is preceded in death by her siblings, Terry Polk, Keith Polk, Max Polk, Margie Crimminger, Annie Polk, and Richard Polk. She is survived by her numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
A visitation will be held on Friday, January 30, 2026, from 11:00 am until 12:00 pm at Secrest Grove Baptist Church, located at 4505 Weddington Rd., Monroe, North Carolina. A service to celebrate Joyce’s life will be held following the visitation at 12:15 pm with Pastor Jeff Whitecotton officiating. Burial will then follow immediately after the service at the church cemetery.
