Steve was born on May 14, 1943, in Syracuse, NY. He was the only child of Gerald and Florence Sykes Craft. He met the love of his life, Jill Vormwald, in high school and they married in 1964. In 1970, they and their three young children moved to Charlotte, NC. He worked in the Charlotte area as a computer programmer and later in life at the Stereo Repair Center. In 1998, he and Jill relocated to Monroe, NC. After retiring, Steve volunteered at Habitat for Humanity ReStore where he repaired various stereo and video equipment.
Steve was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who loved being with his family at every opportunity. He was a man of few words but always expressed a gentle kindness to both friends and strangers alike. Steve had a deep love for God and was a long-time member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church in Charlotte and worked with the audio/visual team there. He had a great love for classic cars and music of all kinds and played drums in a dance band for many years at the Candlelight Restaurant in Charlotte and later at the Idlewild Country Club in Matthews.
