

Cook, Allen Mizell, 93, died April 5, 2011, after an extended illness. He was born to Fair Calloway Cook and Mary Elizabeth Crabtree Cook in Elba, AL, on January 27, 1918. He was predeceased by his parents, ten siblings, and a daughter, Elizabeth Ann. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Edna P. Cook; one daughter, Cecilia (Jep) Dalton; one son, David Allen Cook, all of Montgomery; four grandchildren, Michael Dalton, Montgomery; Brian (Heather) Dalton, Nashville, TN; Patrick Cook, Auburn, AL; one granddaughter, Ashley Cook, Prattville, AL. He was a member of Frazer Memorial United Methodist Church, and was a Shriner, Mason, and member of the Scottish Rite (Mobile, AL.). He joined the U.S. Navy in 1939 and retired in 1959, and was a veteran of WW II and the Korean Conflict. He saw action in North Africa (French Morroco), Europe (Sicily and Italy), and the Pacific (Iwo Jima). He was privileged to be a witness aboard an escort ship to the USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay when General MacArthur and Emperor Hirohito signed the peace treaty to end the war.
Mr. Cook’s Funeral Service will be held Friday, April 8, 2011, at 2:00 PM, at Alabama Heritage Funeral Home, and he will be buried afterward with military honors at the Alabama Heritage Cemetery. The Reverend Susan Beeson will officiate, and the Visitation will be at Alabama Heritage Funeral Home from 1:00 to 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Hemophilia and Bleeding Disorders of Alabama.
