

Donald Maurice Ball, age 75, of Wetumpka, AL, passed away on Thursday, December 15, 2016. A healthcare leader for all of his adult life, he was respected and appreciated by all who crossed his path. His warm smile, sense of humor and sincere caring for those around him made him a favorite among his many friends.
He is survived by his wife, Leisa Smith Ball, two daughters, Gaylene Boykin Green (Alan), Michele Ball Adamson (Jon), and grandchildren Chris Boykin, Abby, Sara and Jack Adamson, and Mason Hutto.
He started his career in public accounting before joining Baptist Medical Center Princeton as Vice President of Business Affairs. In 1975 he joined Jackson Hospital, quickly ascending to the position of President and CEO, a position he held for 23 years. During those years, the hospital experienced extraordinary growth in service to central Alabama including replacing the original hospital buildings with a modern, state-of-the art facility. While serving as Jackson’s CEO, Mr. Ball served on the Boards of Directors of many organizations including Blue Cross-Blue Shield of Alabama, Mutual Assurance (now ProAssurance), Alabama Hospital Association, Hospice of Montgomery, Alabama Healthcare Hall of Fame, Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce, Montgomery Area Committee of 100, and the Alabama Quality Assurance Foundation. He also served on the American Hospital Association House of Delegates and was a retired member of the American College of Healthcare Executives and the Healthcare Financial Management Association. He was most recently elected to the Board of Directors of Noland Health where he served as Board Chairman.
Mr. Ball was awarded both the Robert M. Coats and William G. Follmmer awards by the Healthcare Financial Management Association. He was awarded the Gold Medal of Excellence by the Alabama Hospital Association and in 2016 was elected to the Alabama Healthcare Hall of Fame.
Visitation will be held at Alabama Heritage Funeral Home on Sunday, December 18, 2016 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, December 19, 2016 at 11:00 am, with Rev. Mark Springer, Jackson Hospital Chaplain, officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Pallbearers will be Dwight Henderson, Gary Glasscock, Ed Scholl, Jon Adamson, Bill Jones and Gary Goff.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Jackson Hospital Foundation or one’s charity of choice.
