A graduate of Tuscaloosa High School and the University of Alabama, Boyd worked as a lobbyist for much of his career. He served as the administrator of ForestFund for 45 years and was the founder and chairman of the Alabama Reinsurance Trust Fund.
Boyd was a loyal and constant friend, serving as a trusted mentor to those who sought his guidance. In turn, legions of people called him their friend - especially the Tenth Legion.
He will be fondly remembered for his innate storytelling abilities, especially related to his political, hunting and fishing adventures. An avid turkey hunter and outdoorsman he was most at home in what he termed the “turkey woods.”
He is survived by his lifelong love and wife of 42 years, Liane, and his devoted son, Jesse, both of Montgomery. He was predeceased by his parents, Herbert Boyd Kelly and Romae Waldo Kelly.
He is lovingly remembered by his sister, Linda Kelly (Ray) Lightsey of Gordo; his brothers, David (Gina) Kelly of Tuscaloosa and Alan (Tracy) Kelly of Northport; sister and brother in-law; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, friends and family are encouraged to listen to some John Prine and remember the good times they shared with him.
To celebrate his life, a gathering of Boyd’s family and friends will be held on Sunday, October 13th from 2:00 - 4:00 pm at Wynlakes Country Club in Montgomery.
