Martha attended Rawls High School, where she met her lifelong love, Patrick Aaron Little, at the young age of sixteen. After graduation, Martha studied at Troy State Teacher’s College for two years before beginning her adventures with Patrick. Martha & Patrick Little became one on May 23rd, 1953, at First Baptist Church in Andalusia. Their lives began with years of traveling while Patrick worked with the Highway Department, before calling Pike Road, Alabama their place of home. Martha and Patrick welcomed their precious children during their travels, Sidney Aaron (Virginia) Little and Debra Sue (Stephen) Crusius. Martha proudly enjoyed 72 years of loving marriage with her doting husband, Patrick.
Martha spent her adult life caring for her family, cooking and styling hair for anyone who would sit in her salon chair.
Her true passion was in making others look good, which for her, was in doing their hair. Martha spent 30 years of her life as a hairstylist at Gayfer’s in Eastdale Mall. Eventually, Patrick built her a salon in their home, where her entire family could get a free haircut anytime they needed.
In her spare time, Martha could always be found with a new cookbook or behind the sewing machine. She loved to try out new recipes and experiment with different cooking techniques. Her family often enjoyed gathering around the dining table to savor her latest dish. Martha adored her daughter, Debbie, and handmade nearly every outfit she wore until adulthood. Eventually, she taught Debbie how to sew for herself and passed the love of creativity down to her children.
Martha was always active in her community and various social groups. Her family and friends will always remember her welcoming spirit, thoughtfulness and Christian values. Martha always made sure that each of her children and grandchildren knew they were special and loved.
Remaining to cherish Martha’s memory are her loving husband, Patrick Aaron Little; son, Sidney Aaron (Virginia) Little; grandchildren, DeeAnne (Brent) Dennis, Stephen Edward Crusius, and Patrick Neil (Rebecca) Crusius; 9 great-grandchildren; along with several nieces and nephews.
Preceding Martha in her passing are her parents, Kirby and Myrtle McPherson; daughter, Debra Sue Crusius; and her three brothers, Cleon, Kirby, and Wayne McPherson.
The family would like to thank Sandra Wilson and the AMEDISYS staff for their time and care with Martha during the last year of her life.
