

Melissa was a preschool music teacher whose love for music and the arts touched countless young lives. She also served as choir director at Woodley East Baptist Church for several years, sharing her passion for worship and music while encouraging others to lift their voices in praise.
A longtime member of Eastmont Baptist Church, Melissa’s faith was central to her life. Throughout her life, she faced many health challenges with remarkable strength, perseverance, and grace, never allowing them to define her spirit or diminish her love for others. Her resilience was a testament to both her faith and her unwavering determination.
Melissa was known for her quirky sense of humor, her stubborn determination, and her vibrant spirit. She approached life with authenticity and heart, leaving a lasting impression on everyone who knew her. She cherished time with family and especially enjoyed traveling across the United States to visit loved ones and spending time traveling in their RV, creating memories filled with laughter and love.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Garmon K. Flowers and Francis J. Flowers.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 40 years, Michael Diggs, whom she married in 1985; her son, Christopher Diggs (Carson Diggs); her daughter, Alicia Cruz (Kyle Cruz); and her cherished grandchildren, Jesse Diggs, Evelyn Cruz, Nora Diggs, and Tyson Cruz. She is also survived by her sister, Patricia Hurst, along with extended family, church family, and dear friends.
Melissa will be remembered for her joyful love of music, her faithful heart, her resilient strength, and the deep love she had for her family. Though she will be deeply missed, her family finds comfort in the promise of eternal life through Jesus Christ.
Visitation will be held Wednesday at 10:00 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m., at Alabama Heritage Funeral Home, Montgomery, Alabama.
