Mr. Cottingham was born in Tennessee. He retired as an Alabama State Trooper, a security guard for the Auburn University coaching staff and head of security for a time at Talladega Motor Speedway. He was a NASCAR fan, lover of all animals that would eat his feed. He was most passionate about loving his family, especially those that called him Grandpa.
Mr. Cottingham was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and a brother, Edward Cottingham.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his daughter, Kathy Gunter, his son, Glenn Cottingham, his grandchildren, Trey Gunter, Lauren Cottingham, Garrett Cottingham, his friends and his church family at Cornerstone Christian.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 am – 11:00 am on Friday, April 3, 2026, at Alabama Heritage Funeral Home 10505 Atlanta Highway Montgomery, AL. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 am on Friday, April 3, 2026, at the funeral home. Interment with Alabama State Trooper honors will immediately follow in Alabama Heritage Cemetery.
