

Stephen D. Stewart, a resident of Montgomery, Alabama, passed away on November 16, 2025, at the age of 75. Born on November 22, 1949, Stephen was known for his hard-working, intelligent, and generous nature.
Stephen had an extensive career with the Department of Defense, serving from September 25, 1972, to January 4, 2006. Throughout his 33-year career, he moved across various military bases in the United States, achieving the title of Chief of the System Engineering Division. After retiring, he continued his career for another decade, engaging in contract work for computer projects and services until March 2016.
In his personal life, Stephen was a devoted handyman, meticulously maintaining his yard and assisting neighbors with theirs. His neighbors knew him as someone they could rely on if a tree fell down or a leak flooded a house. Stephen also had a great love for neighborhood dogs, often stopping to give them attention and treats.
Stephen's passion for learning extended beyond his career. He enjoyed finding news online, then digging deeper, doing research and discussing his findings with other enthusiasts.
Stephen is preceded in death by his father, Arthur Stewart, and his mother, Adele Rama Zelman. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Nancy Stewart; his son, Michael Stephen Stewart; his sisters, Helen Stewart of Florida and Paulene Ondaro of Colorado; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Graveside service for Stephen will be held at Alabama Heritage Funeral Home, located at 10505 Atlanta Highway, Montgomery, AL, 36117, on November 23, 2025, at 2:00 pm. A viewing will be held at 1:00 pm.
