
William Kenneth Givens, Sr. of Opelika, formerly of Montgomery, AL went home to his Christ Palm Sunday, April 17, 2011. As a testimony to all of us, he lived out his faith in life as well as his final battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held from the Chapel of Alabama Heritage Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at 12:00 noon with Dr. Jay Wolf officiating. Visitation will be held from 11 – 12 prior to the service. Kenneth was born July 14, 1934 in Dothan, AL to William Jefferson and Macy Abigail Griffin Givens, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by a son, Jefferson Carr Givens and a brother, Jay Kyle Givens. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mary Carr Hartley Givens, sons William Kenneth Givens, Jr. (Martha), and Daniel Morris Givens (Rosemary), daughter Alice Macy Givens Valaer (Allen). He is also survived by seven grandchildren William David Givens, Sr. (Ruth), Joshua Daniel Givens (Hali), Jason Andrew Givens (Sarah), Joseph Kyle Valaer (Jenna), Mary Katherine Vaughn (Judson), Jessica Kelsey Caswell (Shayne), and Rachel Thomas Givens. Survivors also include four precious great-grandchildren and two special brothers-in-law Joseph Anderson Hartley (Elaine), Morris Leonard Hartley (Betty) and a brother James Griffin Givens.Mr.Givens served in the United States Marine Corps from 1954-1957. He was in Information Systems for forty years, first with IBM, then First National Bank of Dothan, Colonial Properties, Data Aid and Data System Management Division of the State of Alabama.
