The family of Betty Jane Gilchrist Kelly, resident of Bayou L’Ourse, announce her peaceful passing on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at her home surrounded by her beloved family. Born May 31, 1955, in Plaquemine, La. Her life was filled with laughter and love that she shared with all who knew her.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Daniel “Tucker” Gilchrist and Ida Lee Ray Richardson as well as her brothers Hubert, Herbert and Daniel “Lap” Gilchrist, her beloved sons Korey Bergeron and Bradley Kelly and grandson Woody Brymer.
Her marriage of 54 years, to her devoted husband, Dallis Dalton Kelly, was a true example of love’s enduring strength amidst life’s challenges. Together they built a home filled with love, laughter and many wonderful memories with their children and grandchildren. They enjoyed boat rides and picnics on sandbars sharing boxes of Danny’s Fried Chicken and Kool-Aid. And she always made sure to have Caramel Apple suckers for the ride home. Weekend crawfish boils. Also, chocolate chip ice cream and lively games around the kitchen table.
Betty’s occupation was housewife, but she also served as a teacher’s aide at Faith Baptist School, and she shared her faith working many different positions such as a Sunday School and VBS teacher at The Bayou L’Ourse Baptist Church.
Her passion for life was evident in her love for boat rides, tent camping and cooking, but she was also known to be the instigator of many joyful egg fights at family gatherings. Her home was always filled with family and friends, which was a testament to her love and care for those who crossed her threshold.
Left to remember her are her beloved husband, Dallis, and their children: Dwayne Kelly (Denise), Leasha Walters (Roger), Johnnie Troulliet (Anthony), James Matthew, Ciara Lee, Corey, Maddison-Lee and Carter Kelly. She also leaves to hold her memory her sister Margaret Buck and brother Caleb “Joe” Gilchrist as well as their grandchildren; Bethanie-Lee "Carrigy" DiMatteo, Amber Smith (Justin), Khristinie Campo (Shane), Kourtenie Truelove (Ronnie), Ashleigh Brymer (William), Amy Connell (Josh), Matthew and Noah Kelly, Devin Troulliet, Rylieh, Layla and Dallis Kelly and great-grandchildren: Abigail Smith, Justin Campo, Austin Brymer, Kristopher Campo, Addison Smith, Ayden Brymer, Anderson Smith, Annaleigh Brymer, Kenzie Truelove, Ashlynn Brymer, Kynslee Campo, Weslie Truelove, Alivia Connell, Rhett Connell, Theodore Connell and Alexander Brymer.
