Dan was born in Big Lake, Texas and remained proud of his West Texas roots throughout his life. He later became an even prouder resident of Bayou Vista, where he made his home with his beloved wife, Mary Catherine “Cathy” Lee Stephens.
Many of Dan’s fondest memories came from his childhood growing up in Ozona, Texas alongside his parents and his two brothers. Those early years with family remained some of the moments he treasured. Of all his adventures and memories though, his favorite came when his wife sent him and his brother, Joe, on a dream trip to Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin…a memory he treasured deeply.
Dan was a hardworking man who spent 42 years working in the oilfield before continuing his career with Wilson Supply, where he worked another 26 years. He took pride in the work he did and the many years he dedicated to it.
In his free time, Dan enjoyed working on puzzles, a pastime he often shared with his mom and one that brought him many quiet hours of enjoyment. He was also an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers and a devoted admirer of John Wayne.
Dan will be remembered for his steady work ethic, his quiet kindness, and the way he could make people feel at home just by being himself. In all of Dan’s life, he never met a stranger.
Dan is survived by his wife of 40 years, Mary Catherine “Cathy” Lee Stephens; his daughter, Denise Reneé Stephens Daigle; his son-in-law, Nick Daigle; two grandchildren, Oliver and Parker Daigle; two sisters-in-law, Geralyn Stephens and Jan Stephens; cousin who was like a sister, Judy Stephens Moy and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was reunited in heaven with his son, Jacob Stephens; his parents, Robert “Bob” and Doris Stephens; his brothers, Perry “Ned” Stephens and Joe Stephens; his paternal grandparents, Clarence and Mary Stephens and his maternal grandparents, Dennis and Bessie Matlock.
The family requests that a time of memorial visitation and remembrance be observed on Friday, March 20, 2026 from 1:00pm until time of memorial services which will begin at 2:00pm at Hargrave Funeral Home. Pastor Steve Spurlin will preside over the services.
