Mr. Joseph A. Guzzetta, Jr., 92, a resident of Morgan City left this life Friday, March 30, 2012.
Mr. Guzzetta was born in Berwick and was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Normandy Invasion as a combat infantryman. He graduated from Morgan City High School in 1938 and married the love of his life, Beatrice Guarisco in 1942. He served in the National Guard and was activated during WWII and served until 1945. He was employed by Mobil Oil Co for seven years and was self employed as owner of Morgan City Fence and Supply.
He was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Knights of Columbus, Christoforo Columbo, American Legion, Disabled American Veterans and AARP, active in the community and a member of the Atchafalaya Basin Levee Board.
Mr. Guzzetta is survived by six children, Andrea Craig and husband Robert Craig of Dacula, Georgia, Peggy Magee and husband Wiley Magee of Patterson, Lea Guzzetta of Morgan City, Lynn Romaire and husband Ricky Romaire of Morgan City, Susan Fromenthal and husband Logan Fromenthal of Morgan City, Paul Guzzetta and wife Torrie Terry Guzzetta of Lafayette, twenty-two grandchildren, twenty-five great grandchildren, three great grandchildren on the way, two great great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by three sister-in-lawRosetta Boudreaux and her husband, Dewy, Marie Hover, Christine Provost and her husband, Cyrus; and one brother-in-law, Lee Guarisco and his wife, Grace.
Grandchildren include, Laura Larive (Lane), Kelly Magee, Caroline Magee, Brandon Craig (Sasha), Jason Craig (Annie), Kevin Craig (Sarah), Troy Ratcliff (JoAnn), Joey Ratcliff, Nicholas Ratcliff, Brandy Parker (Richard), Matthew Tycer (Karen), Tracy Scarbrough (John), Nicole Pecoraro (Grant), Luke Romaire, Natalie Guzzetta, Jacob Guzzetta, Patrick Guzzetta, Annette Leger, Susan Mahfouz (Chris), Bonnie Guarisco, Lauren Fanelli (Anthony), Erin Shipe (Jason)
He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Beatrice Guarisco Guzzetta, his parents, Joseph Guzzetta, Sr. and Salvina Giordano Guzzetta, his three brothers Jake Guzzetta, Vincent Guzzetta, Nina Guzzetta, his two sisters Jenny Costa, Mary Gougenheim, and one great grandchild. Also proceeded in death are his father and mother-in-law, Lee and Mary Guarisco; two brother-in-laws, H.S. Hover and Peter Guarisco, and a sister-in-law, Rosalie Blum Milford).
Visitation will be Sunday, April 1st from 6pm to 8pm at Hargrave Funeral Home with the service continuing Monday, April 2nd from 9am to 11am at Holy Cross Catholic Church with a service of Christian burial beginning at 11am. Internment burial will be in the Morgan City Cemetery. Military Service will be by St. Mary Parish Funeral Squad.
