Charlotte B. Kimble, age 95, passed away Thursday, April 12, 2018. She was born June 15, 1922 in Greenville, Maine to Clifford and Lola Blanche (Cole) Sawyer. Charlotte graduated from Greenville High School, class of 1940, and worked at the local rationing board during World War II. Following the war, she resided in Connecticut for a time, before returning to Greenville. Later, Charlotte attended Maine School of Commerce in Bangor, Maine. While attending, she had her own radio show at a local radio station, singing popular songs of the era. She said she “got a kick out of receiving her own fan mail.” She married Robert Ware in April of 1947, and lived in Greenville for several years. During this time, Charlotte enjoyed performing in various plays, skits and talent shows at the local Community Center and her church. Two children were born to the couple and the family moved to Bangor, Maine around 1954. While raising the couple’s own children, they became licensed foster parents through the State of Main-Child and Family Services. Charlotte fostered many infants prior to their adoption, and later cared for several young children during their pre-kindergarten years. The whole family loved these little ones, and Charlotte never thought of their care as “work”, but rather found it to be very spiritually rewarding. They moved to southern Maine in 1965, residing in Yarmouth and then Falmouth. She always treated her family as her top priority. Charlotte later married John R. Kimble in April of 1980, though they had met in Greenville as teenagers. The couple enjoyed taking overnight trips in northern New England. They lived in Falmouth until his death in 1993. In 1996, she moved to Muskegon, Michigan to be closer to her son and his family. Charlotte enjoyed sewing, gardening, pastry cooking, reading and writing poetry, and playing the organ. She was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother, and will be deeply missed.
Charlotte is survived by her son James (Colleen) of Muskegon, Michigan; son-in-law Boyd Tankersley of Virginia; step-son Daniel (Linda) Kimble of Maine; step-son William (Ellen) Kimble of Florida; step-daughter Elynn Kimble of New Hampshire; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
