

John Bruce Tekautz was born in Angora Township, St. Louis County, Minnesota, on his grandparents’ farm on September 21, 1929. He was the fourth of fifteen children born to his parents, Charles and Tressa Tekautz. He was a proud veteran having served in Korea during the Korean conflict. He entered the Salvation Army School for Officer Training where he met his wife Cecile. Together they served for 40 years as Salvation Army officers in North Dakota, Kansas, Michigan, Illinois, and Minnesota.
Major John Bruce Tekautz was preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers and four sisters, and his wife of 65 years, Major Cecile Tekautz.
He is survived by his sons: Mr. John Robert (Tereasa) Tekautz, Major Donald (Captain Julie) Tekautz, brother Keith Tekautz, sister Grace Tekautz, four Granddaughters Elizabeth, Catherine, Rebecca, Carrie, soon-to-be arriving Great Grandson Lucas, many nieces and nephews, and daughter-in-love Major Judy Tekautz.
We are very grateful for the staff at Seminole Shores in Norton Shores, Michigan, and the Hospice team of Careline Hospice. They were a tremendous support, especially during Bruce’s last days.
A memorial service will be held at the The Salvation Army, Fulton Heights Citadel, Grand Rapids, Michigan on March 12, 2023 at 3:00 pm. A visitation will take place one hour before the service.
