Addison (Addy) passed away at the Nanaimo Regional Hospital on November 4th, 2025 after a courageous 21-month battle with cancer. He was born in May 1974 at Vancouver General Hospital. In November 2023 Addison was predeceased by his beloved father Garnet Smith. He is survived by his mother, Barbara Ann; his beloved son, Carter; and Carter’s mother, Jaylene.
Addison worked 18 years with ICBC where he moved within the organization, making a positive difference. In 2016 Addison received his Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation and in 2022 he received Instructor of the Year from The Insurance Institute of BC. Addison was also a shop steward with the Movement of United Professionals (MoveUp). He had an amazing gift for forming connections and creating positive interactions with people.
As a sports fan, his favourite sports teams were the Texas Longhorns, Minnesota Vikings and the Vancouver Canucks. In addition to sporting events, Addison also enjoyed attending concerts with his son Carter, and his best friends Jason, Guilia, Steve and Carol.
Addison lived in the lower mainland until he was transferred to Nanaimo in August of 2019, where he continued his career with ICBC. Wherever he went Addison’s outgoing personality, humour, wit, and warm smile gained him many friends. He enriched the lives of those around him. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, colleagues and his labrador ‘puppy’ Oreo.
His family would like to thank the amazing health care professionals in Nanaimo and Victoria that provided support throughout Addison’s illness.
We would also like to recognize the support and love received from family and friends, for which we are so grateful.
There will be a gathering of family and friends at a later date.
