It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our Mom, Alice Harvey, on October 3 2025.
Born Alice Mary Oliver in Vancouver October 20 1928, Mom grew up in Vancouver and graduated from
Lord Byng High School in 1946.
Alice always talked very fondly of her childhood, especially her summers at their family cabin at Roberts
Creek. She was always close with her Brother Walter and Sister Verna, who both predeceased her.
She met Ab Bownick while working at the Vancouver School Board, and married him in 1953. Alice is
survived by her two Sons, Kevin (Sharon) and Marn (Wendy), grandchildren Ian (Corrie) Eric (Tiffany)
Spike (Morgan) Nathan, and Katy (Danee). She was ever so proud to “GG” to Lincoln and Jameson.
Mom’s working life took her from the Department of Anthropology at UBC, to Secretary to Chancellor
John Buchanan at UBC, and eventually to the Senior Office Manager for Vancouver Community College.
But that all changed in 1974 when Alice married John Harvey they soon rered to Nanoose Bay on
Vancouver Island, where they shared 30 wonderful years together before Johns passing. At that point
she became Step Mother to Danny, Ella, Jimmy, David and Johnny.
Theres lots of great memories of annual family picnics held in and around the various islands off
Nanaimo. She was always very appreciave of how the Harvey clan remained in touch with her aer
Johns passing.
Mom was very proud of her group of 12 girlfriends who all met in elementary school and became
lifelong friends. These ladies enjoyed their annual girls weekends away, cookie swaps and get togethers.
Mom was also proud of her 60 year Sorority pin.
Mom was always up for a game of cards, with Bridge or SkipBo being her two favourites in her later
years.
We will all miss Alice, but at 17 days shy of 97 years of age, it was a full life well lived.
