It is with great sorrow that we announce Art’s peaceful death on June 24, 2025, at the age of 96. Art chose to have MAID (Medical Assistance in Dying) so that he could join his beloved Ann who predeceased him on April 25, 2025.
Art was born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan on March 23, 1929. Art was employed as a grocery clerk at the Botterill Shop Rite Store in Nipawin when he met Ann, and they married March 22,1950 in Nipawin, Saskatchewan. They had recently celebrated their 75th Wedding Anniversary on March 22, 2025.
Ann and Art had 4 children Laurie, Richard, Scott and Allison. Art was a very hard worker and loved Ann and their family. They lived in Prince George for many years. Then they moved to Haney / Maple Ridge where they spent many years. Art’s career focused on accounting at West Coast Motors and at various lumber and sawmills. They retired to Vancouver Island.
Always wanting to keep himself busy, Art picked up small jobs at a gas station and driving the bus for the “Old Folks Home” a term he would laugh at as he was older than most of the passengers. He and Ann loved their little get-aways exploring various spots on Vancouver Island, and going to visit his sons and grandchildren in Maple Ridge and Mission. Art was very kind and would do anything for most everyone. He had a hard time saying no. He was a charmer with all the ladies but there was no one that he loved more than his wife Ann. Art loved his jail breaks (as he called them) with his good friend Dave. They would go to the Wellington Pub for beer and lunch; he very much looked forward to those days.
Art is survived by his loving son Laurie of Mission, and his loving daughter Allison of Nanaimo.
Art was predeceased by his dear sons, Richard and Scott, daughter-in-law Gail, and his siblings George (Margaret) and Gordon (Nora).
Art will be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Paul (Dana), Kathleen (Lee), Holly, Allan, Gary (Natalie), Meghan (Stan) and Breanne (Andy) and many great grandchildren: Trayton, Maddy, Emiley, Hannah, Michael, Carter, Nolan, Luka, Henry, Lada, Alden, Ethan, Pierce, Bence, Wilce and great-great-grandchildren, Abigail & Arthur.
Ann and Art were especially fond of their nephew, Dennis Botterill, whom they treated like a son.
A celebration of Ann and Art’s lives will be held at First Memorial Funeral Services, 1720 Bowen Road, Nanaimo, BC on Thursday October 16, 2025 at 1:00 p.m.
