Barbara Evelyn Mackay

The family of Barbara are sad to announce the passing of their beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great great grandmother, on March 26th, 2026. She was born in Nanaimo, B.C. and although moving about BC several times for work Nanaimo was her always home.

Predeceased by husband Norman (Skip) MacKay, stepson Doug MacKay, and daughter Linda MacDonald. Barbara is survived by son Danny Adam (Ruth), son in law Bob MacDonald, stepchildren Michael MacKay and Marney MacKay, grandchildren Blaine (Theresa), Steven (Kelly), Daniel (Kerry), Caleb (Jenna), Adam (Anith), Kacie (Shawn), and 3 step grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Born into the Dirty Thirties and raised during World War II mom knew hardships and it instilled in her a solid work ethic from delivering groceries and papers with her older brother Doug in the 30’s, candling eggs in the 40’s, sales for Sears in the 50’s to 70’s, managing high rise apartments and townhouses in the 80’s. Thanks to all the neighbours, community workers, and volunteers that befriended mom bringing many seasons of joy to her.

By her request there will be an intimate family gathering later in the future.
