Born in Caron, Saskatchewan, Brian dedicated his life to caring for others. His medical practice spanned almost 40 years and he was one of the founding physicians of the Family Practice Clinic in Nanaimo, BC. His direct and unique approach to medicine often coloured a bit outside the lines but it was always for the right reasons.
While he was known as “Doc” to many, Brian would claim his first profession as farming. He was widely respected as an accomplished breeder within cattle communities across Canada. Farming was not just a part of his life-it was a defining passion and a legacy he carried with pride.
All who knew Brian were well aware of his love of music, especially gospel music, and also his fondness for the simple pleasures of life such as: chocolate, ice cream, fizzy water and a bottle of Tums (which was always close at hand).
Brian is lovingly remembered by his wife of 14 years, Dorothea. He is also survived by his 4 children with his pre-deceased first wife, Kathleen, Peter, Jeremy, Ben (Paola), Jessica, and his youngest daughter, Emma, and her mother and Brian’s dear friend, Susanne; his stepdaughters, Stacey (Derek) and Kristina (Cameron); and his beloved grandchildren, Callum, Finlay, Ethan, Lucas, Gabriel, Luke, Noah, Makayla, Kennley, Aiden, and Ashton.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the first responders, ER and palliative care teams for their exceptional service.
A private celebration of life will be held with arrangements entrusted to First Memorial Funeral Services in Nanaimo. In lieu of flowers, donations in Brian’s memory may be made to his charity of choice which was World Vision or by simply enjoying a piece of chocolate, a scoop of ice cream, or a glass of fizzy water in his honor, followed of course, by some Tums.
