It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Carola Hedwig Meadows. Carola was born in Germany and immigrated to Canada with her family in 1957. Nanaimo was her home for most of her life.
Carola will always be remembered for her deep love of family, and especially her love of children. She also cared a lot about animals, and particularly adored her cats.
Carola was able to help many people in her years as a family councillor in Nanaimo, and had an innate ability to connect with those who were struggling. She was also always there for her family and friends and happy to provide guidance and support when needed.
She lived her life guided by a strong moral compass and wasn’t afraid to speak up when it came to challenging issues and injustices. Carola was an avid reader and a talented writer with excellent command of the English language. She was absolutely wonderful at writing stories and poetry and did so throughout her life.
Puttering around with her many flower pots, and herb gardens was something she thoroughly enjoyed doing in the Spring and Summer months, and she was quick to share in her bounty.
Her door was always open and welcoming and she loved having family and friends visit with her.
Carola had a kind and generous heart that was full of love for all those she cared about.
She will be deeply missed.
She is survived by her loving husband, Gary, her step children, Jennifer, Melissa and Emily, five step grandchildren, siblings, Herb (Marcia) and Ellen, and her beloved nieces, nephews and cousins. Carola is predeceased by her parents, Henry Andreas Kessler and Theodora Maria Franceska Kessler, as well as grand parents, and aunts and uncles in Germany.
“May God embrace you with love and nurture you with everlasting peace”.
A service will be held at First Memorial Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 6th @ 2pm, for close friends and family.
